Pottery Problems After Kiln Firing
Does your pottery warp during firing?
Thicker, larger items are prone to warping during the manufacturing (drying) process and sometimes problems can occur during firing too.
Here are some tips to avoid issues:
- Drying: please read the articles below to find out recommendations to avoid warping whilst making and drying clay/greenware.
- Kiln Firing: load the kiln to ensure there is uniformity of heat/air-circulation during firing.
- Using Stilts & Other Accessories: ensure accessories are placed even on/around/under the wares e.g. on the image above, stilts were placed either end of the frame which left the middle unsupported. Due to the weight of the ware, the middle dipped and the piece warped during the firing process.
